Vital Statistics of India Report
The “Vital Statistics of India 2023” Report has been recently released by Registrar – General of India under Civil Registration System (CRS).
What is CRS?
CRS is the unified process of continuous, permanent & compulsory recording of vital events like birth, death & sex ratio, maintained by Registrar General of India under Ministry of Home Affairs.
Key Findings of the Report –
- Decline in birth by 0.9% (from 2022)
- Birth registered at urban areas is higher than rural areas.
- Slight increase in deaths by 0.1% (from 2022)
- Death registration at rural areas is higher than urban areas.
- Sex Ratio shows Gender Imbalance
- Sex Ratio at birth is Highest in Arunachal Pradesh (1085) and lowest in Jharkhand (899).
- Institutional Births – 74.7% of births occurred in health institution reflecting greater access to maternal healthcare.
- Birth & death registrations for males are higher than females both in rural and urban areas.
